The Complete Sharpless Catalog: 313 (Mostly) Amazing Objects for the Astrophotographer (Imm Astrophotography Series)

The Sharpless Catalog, established in 1959 by Dr. Stewart Sharpless, is the best of the many astronomy catalogs for astrophotographers seeking beautiful narrowband imaging targets. The catalog consists solely of nebulae, with no standalone star clusters or obscure galaxies. Many of these nebulae targets are faint, but today's scope, camera and processing technologies allow us to gather photons far faster than ever before. This 156 page book was written to assist astrophotographers who wish to capture these amazing Sharpless objects from their backyards. There are enough targets here to keep the astrophotographer busy for a lifetime. Inside you will find a high resolution image and a description of each of the 313 objects, along with technical data to help you to understand their characteristics and to assist you in finding them in your sky. Data provided for each object includes imaging rating, object type, recommended object palette, distance, actual size, apparent size, and more. Also included for each object are the Sharpless traits of form, structure and brightness. Read more
