Jens H. Quistgaard Azur Stoneware Jug

This is a Jens Harald Quistgaard stoneware milk jug or creamer in the Azur pattern. The pattern features an embossed floral motif resembling those of Japanese cherry blossoms. The name Azur comes from the glaze color which is a turquoise gray.

This was produced in Denmark between 1957 - 1969. The Azur series is one of his early works. It was produced by several Danish factories, including Kronjyden. (Last pic). It is considered a rare and highly esteemed piece of Danish ceramic design.

This piece measures 6” tall and 5 1/2” wide, including the handle. It is in pristine condition.

Jens H. Quistgaard (1919–2008) was a prolific Danish industrial designer and sculptor whose work defined the "Scandinavian Modern" style in post-war America. As the chief designer for Dansk Int’l Designs, he created thousands of household items.

His works are featured in permanent collections at major museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Louvre.
