"Hockey for Girls and Women" is a comprehensive instructional manual dedicated to the sport of field hockey, providing a detailed look at the game during a transformative era for female athletes. Written by Kathleen Eleonora Lidderdale, a distinguished figure in international hockey, this work serves as both a practical guide for players and a historical record of the development of women's sports. The text outlines the essential elements of play, including stickwork, dribbling, and shooting, while offering specialized advice for every position on the pitch, from the goalkeeper to the wings. The book emphasizes the strategic and tactical depth of the sport, discussing team formations, defensive positioning, and offensive maneuvers. Beyond technical proficiency, Lidderdale explores the broader aspects of the game, such as the responsibilities of the captain, the importance of sportsmanship, and the physical conditioning required for high-level competition. By capturing the techniques and organizational standards of the early 20th century, "Hockey for Girls and Women" remains a valuable resource for those interested in the history of athletics and the foundational principles of field hockey. It stands as a testament to the skill and dedication of the pioneers who helped establish hockey as a premier team sport for women. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
