This stout maple has intricate lacy leaves. Hana matoi was recently introduced as a sport of 'Toyama nishiki' at Tsukasa Maples in Japan. It translates to "adorned with flowers" in English. This name recognizes how the red/purple leaves with streaks of creams and pinks make the Hana matoi Japanese maple appear like a flowering shrub. During winter, one can appreciate the streaks of color this maple's brilliant stems! Come fall, leaves are a stunning orange to red. Enjoy this small shrub in garden, as a container plant, or even as a bonsai! Companion Plants: If you like this check out my other plants!
