Franz Lehar's The Merry Widow: Complete Score for Piano and Voice in English

Since its 1905 premiere, Franz Lehár’s The Merry Widow has remained the glittering centerpiece of the golden age of operetta. This volume reproduces exactly the original 1907 piano-vocal score, capturing the lush melodies and spirited orchestrations that transformed the Merry Widow into a global sensation. The underlay lyrics this edition reproduce the original English-language translation by Adrian Ross. His clever rhymes and lyrical flow remain singable today and offer a charming, period-accurate window into the Belle Époque. However, this reprinting can also be seamlessly used with Behr Berry's new, modern translation of the libretto and book (separately available as ISBN 979-8-9895497-6-4), making this score an ideal rehearsal and performance companion for those wishing to stage fresh, updated productions using Berry's lyrics and dialogue. Both this score and Berry's lyrics (and dialogue) are in the public domain and royalty-free. Performers and theater companies are free to stage, record, and adapt this material without licensing fees or permissions of any kind. Read more
