Father Finn, S.J., (Hardcover)

"Father Finn, S.J." is a compelling biographical study of Father Francis J. Finn, one of the most influential figures in American Catholic literature. Written by Daniel A. Lord, S.J., himself a prominent Jesuit author and organizer, this work explores the life and enduring legacy of the man widely regarded as the creator of the Catholic juvenile novel. Through a blend of personal reminiscence and historical narrative, the book traces Finn's journey as a priest, educator, and storyteller who profoundly shaped the moral and imaginative lives of young readers.

The narrative delves into the creative process behind Finn's beloved characters, such as Tom Playfair and Claude Lightfoot, while highlighting his deep commitment to the Society of Jesus and his pastoral work in Cincinnati. Lord provides an intimate look at Finn's personality, his understanding of youth, and his ability to infuse adventure stories with spiritual depth. This volume serves as both a tribute to a literary pioneer and a valuable historical document for those interested in the development of Catholic culture and education in early 20th-century America. It remains an essential read for scholars of religious history and fans of classic Catholic storytelling.

This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
