Duckweed – The Tiny but Mighty Superfood for Your Aquaponics System

Looking for a fast-growing, nutrient-dense plant that feeds your fish, filters your water, and practically grows itself? Duckweed (Lemna minor) is your go-to aquaponics ally. Small in size, big in performance—this little floater brings powerful benefits to any tank or grow bed.

What Makes Duckweed a Smart Choice?

• Ultra-Fast Growth
Duckweed is one of the fastest-growing aquatic plants in the world—capable of doubling in mass every 24 to 48 hours under ideal conditions. That means a continuous, renewable food source for your fish.

• High Protein, Natural Feed
With protein levels reaching up to 40%, Duckweed is a powerhouse food source for tilapia, koi, mollies, goldfish, tadpoles and more. It’s soft, easy to digest, and especially ideal for fry and fingerlings.

• Water Cleaner & Nutrient Balancer
Duckweed acts like a floating biofilter, quickly absorbing excess nitrates, phosphates, and even trace heavy metals—leaving your water cleaner and healthier for both plants and fish.

• Tiny Size, Big Impact
With fronds just a few millimeters wide, this miniature plant is incredibly efficient at nutrient uptake. It also floats freely without rooting, making it easy to manage in most systems.

Simple to Grow, Easy to Manage

• Lighting: Thrives in bright, indirect light or full sun.

• Water Conditions: Prefers warm, nutrient-rich water; grows best in temperatures above 65°F.

• Maintenance: Harvest frequently to keep growth under control and promote fresh, healthy colonies.

• System Compatibility: Perfect for tanks, ponds, and trough systems. Safe for nearly all aquaponic fish and invertebrates.

Naturally Sustainable, Incredibly Useful

Whether you're feeding your fish, improving water quality, or just looking to reduce feed costs, Duckweed delivers results fast. Its rapid growth and high-protein content make it one of the most efficient plant-based feeds available for aquaponics systems of all sizes.
