  • Details:  This is Hutschenreuther most popular pattern, called Blue Onion, and these butter pats are extremely hard to find!  Hutschenreuther made their own version of Blue Onion pattern starting in 1930.  The pattern goes back to Ancient China, but once the Europeans started making it, many versions of "Blue Onion" abound.  Meissen, Wedgwood, Zwiebelmuster, Staffordshire, Winterling, and Artnart, (just to name a few), have their own versions of Blue Onion. The backstamp on this butter pat was used in 1969  If you are trying to collect this pattern, we hope this is a happy find.  Otherwise, this will match very well with other blue & white china sets.  Price is for ONE butter pat, we have four in stock, all in wonderful condition, (see last picture), if you would like all four, please Contact Us for a 15% discount (cannot be combined with any other discount).

Hutschenreuther AG was started by Carl Magnus Hutschenreuther, originally as a German porcelain decorating factory in Hohenberg, Bavaria, in 1814. In 1822 they started to produce their own porcelain. Carl passed away in 1845, his wife Johanna, and their two sons, Christian and Lorenz, took over the company.

In 1857 Lorenz left to start his own company, Hutschenreuther Selb, and partnered with Haviland and Wedgwood. When Lorenz died in 1886, his sons Viktor and Eugen, took over the company. Hutschenreuther Selb expanded from 1905 through 1928 by acquiring several other porcelain factories

Christian Hutschenreuther (C.M. Hutschenreuther), also expanded during these years, acquiring a porcelain factory in Arzberg in 1880 and factories in Bohemia, Silesia, and Saxonia in the early 1900s. Unfortunately these factories were lost when Germany was divided after World War II.

In 1969, Lorenz Hutschenreuther purchased C. M. Hutschenreuther and created Huttschreuther AG. He kept expanding and by the late 1990's Hutschenreuther AG had 15 production sites and over 6,00 employees. In 2000, Hutschenreuther became part of the Rosenthal Division of the Wedgwood Group. Rosenthal continues to use Hutschenreuther’s trademark.
