The XL40 - Purpose Built For Moto
See the XL40 Difference
All XL moto kits will now be available with a choice of either the XL40 or XL80 giving riders the ability to match the right light to their bike, stator output, and the terrain they ride. Watch our comparison video between the XL Pro and the new XL40 to see the improved light intensity and beam angle.
Paired with Trail Lens
Together, the XL40 and Trail Lens deliver enhanced nearfield and peripheral illumination for technical 1st–4th gear riding. The XL40 provides a smoother, more blended output when matched with the Trail Lens, which produces a balanced vertical and horizontal beam to improve visibility through rocky switchbacks, hill climbs, elevation changes, and tight technical turns.
More Compatibility
By re‑engineering the internals of the XL80 into a lower‑draw design, the XL40 works seamlessly with a wide range of motorcycles, especially those with smaller OEM stator outputs. This means more bikes will be able to experience the Baja Designs difference.
High/Low Beam Functionality
The XL40 features both high and low beam functions, with the low beam dimming output by 25%. At full high beam, the XL40 provides 5,224 lumens, while low beam dims down to 1,435 lumens.
ELS (High): 92°/5.9/226’/5224
ELS: (Low): 74°/5.9/119’/1435
Upgrade your off-road lighting with the Baja Designs XL40 (D/C) LED Headlight Kit — purpose-built for Yamaha WR250F and WR450F motorcycles. Inspired by the performance of the XL80, the XL40 delivers 5,224 lumens of trail-proven illumination to a wider range of bikes. Engineered for dirt bikes with lower-output OEM stators, it draws just 43.5W — a powerful upgrade without the large power draw.
Paired with the signature XL Trail Lens, the XL40 produces both vertical and horizontal beam patterns with exceptional near-field and peripheral visibility. The Trail Lens redistributes center beam intensity to eliminate harsh hot spots — improving clarity through vertical transitions, quick elevation changes, and tight corners. The result is a smooth, evenly distributed field of light that inspires confidence in the most demanding terrain.
