The characters are well fleshed-out, and the situations are believable; in fact, in the current state of the world, one might almost say they are becoming likely. The author does a great job of presenting the moral dilemmas that arise in difficult circumstances, and without being moralistic or "preachy" he follows the thoughts and decisions of the people involved in each scenario to the right conclusion.
