Ampersand Art Supply Primed Smooth Artist Panel | 6" x 12" | 3/8" Flat Profile | Gessoed Wood Painting Panel for Oil, Acrylic & Mixed Media | Canvas Board & Wood Panel Alternative

Ampersand Art Supply’s Primed Smooth Artist Panel is a professional, ready-to-paint acid-free gesso board designed for oil, acrylic, pouring, and mixed media. This painting surface features an ultra-smooth acrylic gesso that requires no sealing or preparation—giving artists a flawless ground for crisp brushwork, ultra-fine detail, portrait painting, plein air work, and the cleanest wipes. Because the rigid panel reflects light rather than absorbing it (like canvas or paper), colors appear brighter, more vivid, and more defined. The smooth, uniform surface supports a wide range of media, including acrylics, oils, gouache, casein, alcohol inks, graphite, airbrush, collage, image transfers, and photo mounting. Painters appreciate how evenly paint glides across the surface, while acrylic pour artists favor it for clean leveling without canvas texture interrupting the pour. Primed Smooth also serves as a versatile craft surface and wood canvas alternative for art classes, workshops, hobby painting, and studio use. Built with a durable, warp-resistant MDF (medium-density fiberboard) core, this painting board stays flat under heavy paint application, palette-knife work, and mixed-media layering. It offers a long-lasting alternative to stretched canvas, canvas boards, unprimed wood panels, and unfinished craft boards—ideal for artists who want a stable, rigid painting surface without texture, weave, or sagging. Primed Smooth is available in sizes from 4x4 through 18x24 and in multiple profiles, including 1/8"" flat, 3/8"" flat, 7/8"" cradled, and 1½"" cradled. The 3/8"" flat panel and all cradled profiles feature fully primed edges for wrapping artwork around the sides, while the 3/8"" flat format includes a built-in keyhole hanger for ready-to-display mounting. Cradled panels use solid wood pine supports for strength and a contemporary presentation. Whether you're creating fine art, acrylic pours, portraits, landscapes, or mixed-media work, Primed Smooth delivers consistent performance and a smooth gesso surface trusted by artists, educators, and hobbyists. It’s a dependable painting panel and canvas alternative suited for every studio, classroom, and art supply kit.

• Versatile for Oil, Acrylic & Mixed Media: Works beautifully with acrylics, oils, alcohol inks, gouache, casein, graphite, airbrush, collage, image transfers, photo mounting, and mixed media. The 3/8" flat panel and all cradled profiles feature fully primed edges so artwork can wrap cleanly around the sides, while the 3/8" flat panel adds a built-in keyhole hanger for quick, ready-to-display mounting.
• Warp-Resistant Wood Painting Panel: The MDF core stays flat and stable under heavy paint, palette-knife work, and mixed-media layering. A dependable alternative to canvas boards, canvas panels, and unfinished wood craft panels for professional art supplies.
