It then works to prevent eggs from hatching, ending the flea's life cycle and keeping your cat protected for up to a full month. Advantage II is waterproof, safe for pets and easy to apply. Each package contains a 4-month treatment. Fleas are not only a nuisance that can affect pets and other family members, but they can also be potentially dangerous. Flea allergy dermatitis is the most common ailment associated with an infestation. This will typically cause minor skin irritation, but some cats may be allergic to the flea's saliva, which can aggravate the condition. In extreme cases, this can lead to hair loss and scabs from excessive scratching. Parasites such as tapeworms are also possible, if the cat swallows a flea that carries tapeworm larvae. For these reasons, and for the comfort of your animal, regular flea prevention treatment is highly recommended.

How it works:
The first active ingredient is imidacloprid, which acts on the nervous system of the flea to cause paralysis and subsequent death. Within 12 hours of application, 98-100 percent of fleas are dead. The second active ingredient, pyriproxyfen, is an insect growth regulator. Once a female flea lays her eggs, pyriproxyfen works to prevent the eggs from hatching, ending the flea life cycle.
Cautions:
Individual sensitivities, while rare, may occur after using any pesticide product for pets. If signs persist, or become more severe, consult a veterinarian immediately. Do not get this product in your pet's eyes or mouth.
